EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is defined merely as club music that is produced primarily dance-based entertainment environments such as clubs.

Jes Brieden aka JES is a singer/songwriter whose goal is to connect with her audience on more than a rhythmic level. Sure, anyone can dance to dance music – how many can say that they feel something from it? The lyrics heard in JES’ music are definitely proof of that.

The two-time Grammy nominee has changed the game in a musical genre that has traditionally been dominated by men. JES has been named by VIBE Magazine as one of the Top 10 Female Dance MUSIC Acts of 2013 and one of today’s hottest lady DJ’s by Marie Claire.

Her recently released album Unleash the Beat Platinum has received raved reviews, JES tours the globe sharing her unique sound with her fans.

In a recent chat with the hit EDM artist, we talked about her work towards that Grammy, what motivates her, and what’s in store for the future.

WT: What do you hope your fans take away from your music?

JES: I try to write from the heart and make a conscious effort to make my music be an honest expression of my life and experiences. Music is really just a feeling and when something inspires me to write I try to use that feeling as my guiding force. I hope that my fans connect with that directly and feel included in the experience. We all have similar feelings and experiences, and I want my music to be something that brings people together. For me, music should be healing, invigorating and inspiring and I would like that they walk away with a sense of strength as well as a sense of hope.

THIS SONG SLAPS: [ARTIST INTERVIEW] Jes Prepares To Unleash The Beat

July 12, 2014
ARTIST INTERVIEW, JES, Jes Prepares To Unleash The Beat, THIS SONG SLAPS

JES - this song slaps

I had a chance to catch up with legendary producer/DJ Jes, and discuss the release of her upcoming mix compilation, Unleash the Beat: Blonde.

Unleash the Beat Blonde is a digital mix album; explain what that is for people who may be unfamiliar with the concept. What draws you to release a musical compilation in this fashion as opposed to a straight album or EP?

I try to release 4 mix compilation albums a year that support my weekly mix show (www.unleashthebeat.com). Only one of those releases is a physical CD (which is usually a double album), and the other albums are digital only releases. I still approach the digital releases like a normal album with artwork, etc., but I think making more frequent, small releases is better for the fans. It means I can make the albums more current so they better reflect what’s happening in trance, progressive and electro right now. Most of the tracks are favorites of mine from recent “Unleash The Beat” mix shows and the digital format seemed to be the most effective way to bring my latest mixes to my fans. My Unleash The Beat Blonde mix will be available on July 14, 2014 on all major download stores and you can get a preview of the action here.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to interview the beautifully talented JES. During that interview, she informed us of her tour with world class DJ and Producer, ATB for his 4 city US Live in Concert Tour. Partnered with Insomniac Events, this tour was not the typical DJ, lights, and the crazed fans – added to the mix, a live band with a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and keyboard player to make this experience a truly unique one. And of course, one of the special guests of this amazing tour is JES. Their first stop, October 4th – The Warfield Theater in San Francisco, CA. And of course, we at LSB quickly jumped on this chance and headed to San Francisco.

RESPECT MY REGION: RMR sits down with Grammy-nominated EDM vocalist JES!

June 24, 2014
edm, Grammy, JES, nominated, RESPECT MY RELIGION, vocalist

With the explosion of EDM and all of the fanfare it has brought along with it, it’s no surprise that producers and DJ’s are growing more and more famous by the minute. The stage show is definitely a main factor in all of this dance music buzz, but tell me the last time refreshing vocals DIDN’T give you goosebumps…

From cool collaborations with huge names like Tiësto, BT and Paul Oakenfold to performing at the 2008 Summer Olympics, those mood-soothing, chill-inducing vocals are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to trance vocalist Jes Brieden, aka JES. We got an amazing opportunity to sit down with her and learn a bit more about everything she’s done as well as what the future holds.

THE BEATMILL: THE QUEEN OF ROCKTRONICA: JES SPEAKS TO THEBEATMILL

June 21, 2014
JES SPEAKS TO THEBEATMILL, THE BEATMILL, THE QUEEN OF ROCKTRONICA

Screen Shot 2014-08-08 at 8.12.14 PM

New York City’s Queen of Rocktronica, JES, has been a major contributor to the EDM movement throughout her flourishing career as a singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. Last year JES compiled an hour long mix for TheBeatMill Sessions that you can check out here.

What some may call a veteran in the scene, JES has come a long way in the past decade since her vocals on Motorcycle’s As The Rush Comes. In addition to lending her beautiful pipes to some of the biggest producers in the game (ATB, BT,Above&Beyond), this New York City gal has released four solo albums and launched a weekly mix show Unleash The Beat.

JES doesn’t plan on stopping there either. JES say’s there’s much more ahead for her in music as well as her favorite hobbies: cooking, yoga and photography.

TheBeatMill recently spoke to JES about her accomplishments, her recent track Runaway, being on MTV and much more.  Check out our interview below.

TBM: It’s safe to say that Runaway was a great way to kick off 2014 for you. Were you able to work with Cold Blue and Dennis Sheperd in the studio for this track?

JES: Runaway was definitely an awesome way to start the year for me but I want mention that earlier in the year I had 3 songs included on ATB’s amazing new album “Contact” [Kontor Records] just before “Runaway” came out and I also had a Beatport Trance #2 with the Antillas & Dankann remix of my BT and Fractal collaboration “Letting Go” so yes it’s been an exciting year so far for me ☺.

Unfortunately because of our schedules and locations (I’m recording in Los Angeles and the guys are in Germany) we weren’t able to get together. The song came to life through email, phone and the latest collaboration helper WhatsApp! My approach to collaborating on songs remotely is to work musically as much as possible. Instead of trying to explain an idea I’ll just do it and send it over to the other artists involved so they can hear it. The guys were great to work with. We had a very good rhythm of communication, which is everything when working this way. They’re both amazing producers and very open-minded so I was really happy with how the song came out. I don’t think the distance between us compromised it at all.
